A festival to pray for good fishing harvest, known as Cau Ngu Festival, commenced in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 22.
The festival, which takes place in Phong Dien district’s Phong Hai commune, not only honour the cultural values of the nation but also reflects the spiritual life of people living in Vietnam’s coastal areas.
The two-day event opens with rituals to offer sacrifices to the gods practiced by prestigious people. It is followed by lion dances and performances re-enacting fish catching and trading activities in a coastal village.
The festival also features a procession of the whale god through villages to the communal house as well as the floating of flower garlands and coloured lanterns to the sea.-VNA
